Economic crisis also in Mwanza
Education centre at Malimbe Family
The EDC is not yet fully completed but is being used already. Several things turned out to be more expensive than anticipated and we need more money to complete everything. The computer room is in use. One of the volunteers, Michiel, is trying to organize five computers in Holland, to be used by the children. If you have any ideas of good second hand computers, please let us know. We take care for transport to Mwanza. The former head teacher of the primary school is coming to UD four times per week to assist the children with their studies. They are very happy with the quality of the help he is providing.
Economic crisis in Mwanza
The education costs as well as food costs are going up continuously, due to the economic crisis in the world, where also Tanzania suffers from. This has another implication, we meet more and more children on the street where life is getting harder for them. But also our aim to get more Tanzanian support for our project is not going easy when everybody feels the crisis.
The exchange rate is not in UD’s favour, when the euro exchange rate against the dollar is dropping, than our Dutch money is turning out to be less Tanzanian shillings (i.e. 1 euro = 1950 TZS).In the meanwhile more and more children are going to secondary school. There are presently 22 boys who follow secondary education and another 13 will follow when the new school year starts. And this is another challenge to support them with living costs, clothes, books and school fees. But with the help of our friends in Netherlands and abroad we managed so far.
