What if it happens to you
By Deus, manager Back Home House
Marwa and Giriri are blood brothers presently staying at Back Home House, Marwa is aged 11 and Giriri is 10 years old. Their father was taken to prison at the beginning of 2011 and is still there. The children were left with their mother, who later got mental problems. The mother was taken to a local healer in a village. It helped for a while but after certain time she became sick again and worse than before. The mother’s relatives decided to return the woman to the local healer again. That time, Marwa and Giriri were left in the house of their mother’s sister. The foster parents demanded every day 800 Tshs from the children in exchange of the food and services they provided. The children failed to get that money and they decided to make living through their own means in their tiny house. Since that time, Marwa and Giriri went on the streets to try their fortune. They occasionally earned some money for daily living through cleaning kitchen stuff in some restaurants, collecting and selling empty plastic bottles as well as selling used iron tools and begging some coins from the people.
There our street team met them and invited them to come with them to the Back Home House. It’s very surprisingly that the children are still so strong, and their faces are always smiling. You cannot read from their faces that these children have passed through all this misery! The team of the Back Home House is trying to get into contact with their close relatives to support them to take their responsibilities towards these fine young boys.
