A new development in Mwanza is the large increase in street children due to the closure of schools because of Corona. Children are enticed by other children to leave their homes and experience the freedom of the streets. Juma was one of these children. As he couldn’t go to school during the day, Juma often met up with neighborhood kids. These children had experience with street life, and the freedom was very appealing to Juma. Once on the street, he realized how tough life on the street is – he had to beg for his food, fight for his belongings, and no longer had a safe place to sleep. Fortunately, Upendo Daima found him and was able to reunite him with his family. His father and grandmother are very happy that he is back. In the meantime, he has also returned to school.
