Secondary school students in Delft fasting 24 hours
Four students of the Stanislas College in Delft, launched a great activity for the Malimbe Family, after they visited the street children project in Mwanza last summer. The student council selected Malimbe Family as the project that would be focussed on during the fasting month, and to organise fundraising activities for the project . The 4 students and their mentors turned this into a reality; on Friday, 20 March, jointly with many other students they did not eat for 24 hours and in so doing raised 3600 Euro. A great performance! They gave...

Communion group goes around with a moneybox
The children of the communion group 2009 in Berkel and Rodenrijs are preparing themselves for their communion on 10 and 17 May. As part of the preparation they give attention to the street children project in Mwanza. The children carry out minor jobs to make money. For example they assist their parents in the store or sell peppers. Some children save money of their pocket money. On the day of the communion celebration they go around with the box to collect money from the guests for the Upendo Daima project.

The Netherlands May 2009
Upendo Daima takes part in an “ontmoetingsdag” (meeting-day) organised by Cordaid in The Hague.
Highlights were the performance of cabaret artist Jetty Mathurin, with a specially tailored show for this event, and the beautiful story of the narrator Wijnand Stomp
The speeches of Mayor Van Aartsen and Rene Grotenhuis, the Director of Cordaid were very encouraging and stimulate us to energetically continue our work for Tanzania.
We participated in workshops about sustainability and innovation. The NCRV Mambapoint workshop on how to create your own project video was instructive. And, of...
The Netherlands August 2009
The Back Home House is now running for some 12 months and we start seeing results. In Malimbe Family we also have our successes but also our difficulties. The global economic crisis, which is also felt in Tanzania with ever increasing food prices, represent an additional challenge. Thanks to the enormous commitment of Marga, Hoja and the whole Tanzanian team, and above all, the support of all those involved in the Netherlands we have made good progress. Marga and Hoja, are now for two months in the Netherlands and will bring you up to date about all this and much more, during the donors '...

Dormitories for the Back Home House
Great news, there is money available for the construction of the dormitories for the Back Home House. After the wet season, somewhere in April or May, the construction of the dormitories for 20 to 30 street children can be started. A considerable drainage problem still has to be resolved, but Marga is in discussion with the municipality. Hopefully they will soon...

Streetwork
During the evening the staff is often in the streets, trying to win the confidence of the many street children who are presently in Mwanza. Many new children have been approached. The staff are committed to helping as many children as possible, and motivate them to quit living on the street. 25 children have come to the Back Home house, but regrettably some are back on the street...

Makarongo workshop
Upendo Daima took over this workshop from a Swiss architect so that we can train our children to become craftsmen like carpenter, plumber or electrician. We received 3000 Euro from the Fides Foundation so that we can refurbish the workshop and make a start with the purchase of materials. The renovation will be carried out by the workers themselves.
We received second-hand tools...

Malimbe Family
At the moment we have 49 children in Malimbe Family, and in addition, there are 9 children at the Luchelele secondary school. Our work is never boring, and from time to time, we must ‘pull all the stops’ to keep the children under control. In such cases it is very clear that they did not receive a solid basis during the first few years of their lives.
Our cows are also asking our...
